• Bisphosphantes - Bisphosphonates are used to treat osteoporosis, Paget¨s disease and bone cancers. Fosamax is prescribed to treat osteoporosis. At larger doses, these medications are prescribed treat advanced bone cancers that have metastasized to the bone. Both Zometa and Aredia are intravenous bisphosphonates made by Novartis and are administered to cancer patients. These high dose bisphosphonates were thought to be the only drugs linked with ONJ, but oral Fosamax is now being linked with the disease.
